Dr John Crowder, President 1979 - 1980 (far right)

'More fund raising efforts for charity and closer links with the Royal Caledonian Schools [in Bushy, now the Purcell School of Music] ....these are the two main targets which members of the Watford and West Herts Scottish Society have set themselves for their diamond jubilee celebrations. In our picture taken at the Society's 60th anniversary dinner party held in St. Thomas's Church Hall of Saturday, Mrs Pat Fraser, who became the first lady president in 1975, is seen cutting a cake made by Cassio College students.

On her right is her husband, Mr Stan Fraser, the president in 1969, and beside him are Mrs and Mrs Albert Chalmers. Mr Chalmers was the member who, as president from 1941 - 1946, had the task of holding the Society together during the difficult war years.

On the right of the picture are the reigning president, Dr John Crowder, and his wife Betty, who is a committee member.

Entertainment was provided by a troupe of junior Scottish Dancers trained by Miss Debbie Cooper.' Watford Observer

It was the first event of its kind to be held in that hall.

Alex, vice-president of the Watford and West Herts Scottish Society rolled out the red carpet for friends at his home in Swiss Avenue, Watford. And on January 13, society members celebrate the new year at an official party in Croxley Green.

The society has been going for 70 years and we have a thriving membership" said vice president Betty Crowder, who moved to Watford from Glasgow in 1960' Watford Observer
