'The toast to the Society was made by the Mayor [of Watford] who said he always looked upon members of such societies as migrants to the town, and he hoped that they had found Watford as pleasant as he had. He hoped that nobody would lose sight of the fact that the Societies main object was the cultivation of friendship, especially among newcomers to the town. During the evening pipe music was provided by Pipe Major Marnoch (Royal Caledonian Schools)' Watford Observer

Appeal to Watford "Macs"

'Calling for new blood to rejuvenate the West Herts Scottish Society, the President (Mr Andrew Beveridge) told members at their annual Burns dinner dance that with whole columns of genuine "Macs" in the Watford telephone directory - not to mention the Campbells and Gordons - there was a formidable body of Scots in he town to provide new members'. - Watford Observer Jan 1949, report on Burn Supper.
